What if a new missionary age is upon us?

A story has been making the rounds of Pope St. John Paul the Great. A story which left him exuberant in Rome after his return from America in 1993. Returning from “Out West,” John Paul had realized a long awaited “revolution” had finally begun.

In the early part of John Paul’s life he had seen a Second World War and Communism shatter the foundations of european society. As he stepped into his pontificate, Europe and its culture was facing a silent but rapid decline. As he started his World Youth Days, he hoped to enkindle a renewal for the world beginning amongst the continent’s younger generations. However, much to John Paul’s surprise, it was not from Europe that the spark of renewal actually would begin. The hope for Christian society did not come from its ancient roots. Rather, he realized the sign of “revolution” was beginning in the New World. The places once evangelized by Christian missionaries centuries ago would now be the seedbed from which missionaries would be sent to renew the Old Western World. The New World would evangelize the Old. In other words, from the once far western frontier in 1993 a “New Evangelization” had finally begun.

Much has been the talk of our day about how we can regain American society with its patriotism, enterprises, and values. But what if there was a greater venture ahead? What if rather than solely trying to take back what America has lost, we might look rather towards a new opportunity unfolding in front of us? What if our secular culture facing a profound emptiness is ready for the cross’s cost? How might we build in our time a generational Church that can renew all of western society? How might we leverage our unique history and geography to do so? What if the true project which lies ahead is a chance to build a new and vibrant Catholic society in the far west?

All Prayer” exists to explore these questions and more. What’s the mission? To bring about the New Evangelization through the geographical communities and families of the United States. The hope? That from this once “wild west” frontier, there might come a light for the renewal of the western world. Welcome therefore to this initiative. Welcome to “All Prayer on the Western Frontier.”

The missionary journey is still alive today. It is multiplying by the thousands as it loves few by few. Many journeys abound, with stories not so much different from the ones of old.
